5 Ways to Stop Your Nails from Chipping and Breaking

Beauty

Ladies, we all know how irresistibly annoying it is when one of our nails chip off or break. It is the most dreaded moment for any woman. Sometimes a nail breaks or chips due to an accident. That is okay. Accidents are an inevitable part of your life and they will continue to happen. However, when they keep on breaking and chipping off without accidents and on a regular basis, this is when it is time to take matters into your own hands. Preventing your perfectly shaped and manicured nails from chipping and breaking is not a hard thing to do. All it takes is a little caution and care. Let’s look at five ways to prevent them from chipping off and breaking.

  1. Hydration:

The most common cause of chipping and breaking is dryness. Use of chemicals that are present normally in nail enamels, nail polish removers, hand wash, sanitizers etc., can dehydrate them. Keep your nails hydrated by applying petroleum jelly on them and using essential oils or other supplementary products like shea butter to keep them hydrated.

  1. Do not bite:

This one is literally a nail biter( a little nail humor!). Nail biting is another common cause of chipping and breaking. Nail biting is not only unhygienic but also causes disfigured and injured nails which are susceptible to infections. If that doesn’t turn you off of biting them, then the fact they will also look terrible should!

  1. Nourishment:

Just like the rest of our body, our nails also need nutrition. Keep your diet healthy and full of vitamins. Healthy eating prevents brittle nails and thus prevents them from chipping of and breaking. Vitamin B and C are especially great at getting them strong and firm, so make sure you’re consuming those vitamins!

  1. Wear gloves while doing dishes:

You must take careful precautions to ensure that your nails stay in their best form. Always wear gloves while washing dishes or if you have a dishwasher, use it when you can. Scrubbing dishes by hand is one of the easiest ways for them to chip.

  1. Regular maintenance is necessary:

Let’s face it, the bottom line is that you need to take proper care of your nails. The most important thing to do is to have regular maintenance. File them regularly and keep them polished and hydrated. If you can afford it, get them polished professionally every once in awhile. Healthy nails are happy nails.
